She's a Godsend

My baby girl is turning 4 on May 16th and I just wanted to share a story about her. It's a story prior to her birth. I typed this out for her before, but it got lost on our computer and I never recovered it. Actually, I typed it when she was a couple months old and knowing me, I probably didn't save it because I was delirious and sleep-deprived. But I'm just going to continue to blame the computer because that's more satisfying.

Some of my best friends know this story, but I still think it's pretty amazing, so I thought I'd share. I'm writing this to Addison so she will always have it. . .

Dear Addison Claire,

It was 2006 and Daddy and I decided that after 4 years of marriage, we were finally ready to start a family. l specifically remember a Thursday night saying my bedtime prayer and asking God to give me some sort of sign that I was pregnant. Then I remember asking him to have a woman with children ask me for directions the following day. I don't know why I requested something so specific, but I did. So, I remember going to work on Friday hoping all day that a woman with kids would ask me for directions. I worked at Clarian North (now IU Health North) at the time and I figured I would definitely run into someone needing directions around there, no problem. However, not a soul asked. So I remember being pretty disappointed as I drove home. Oh well, I wasn't pregnant; we'd keep trying.

That evening Daddy and I decided we would go for a walk around the neighborhood, it was a beautiful August evening. We decided to also walk down 131st Street, the main street our neighborhood sits on. I never told Daddy about my prayer, there really was no need to. Anyway, we were on 131st Street getting ready to walk back into our neighborhood when suddenly a mini van pulls over on the side of the road by where we were standing. It was a red mini van. A woman with dark hair rolled down the window and said, "Excuse me, can you tell me where Fishers High School is?" She said she was going to the football game. I saw kids in the back of the mini van. I specifically looked. Daddy gave her directions, as FHS is right down the road from our neighborhood, literally. She was almost there. But she stopped and asked us for directions. She could have just driven a half mile more but A LADY WITH KIDS STOPPED TO ASK FOR DIRECTIONS! After the lady drove away I think my jaw was still scraping the pavement. Daddy asked me if I was okay - he said I had a look of complete shock. He actually thought maybe I had seen a kid tied up in the back of the van. I told him about my prayer and he was awe struck as well. God had given me my sign. We were pregnant!

A few days passed and I decided to take a pregnancy test. Well, it was negative. I was really upset and disappointed. I felt like I had been duped. However, I found out about several weeks later that I was indeed about 6 weeks pregnant! I literally must have been a few days pregnant when I asked God to send me a sign. Pregnancy tests just can't answer that question quicker than God I guess. Pretty awesome, huh?!?

Happy 4th Birthday to my little Addison Claire! I can't believe time has gone so fast. You are such a smart, sassy, funny, beautiful, entertaining, sweet little girl. I'm so thankful that you're mine. I remember the first time I held you and the overwhelming rush of love I felt. There's no parallel feeling in the world. You won't know it until you have children of your own.

I pray that you have a healthy, fun-filled, safe life. Love the Lord, your family, and your friends with all your heart. Always be a classy lady and be confident in who you are. Stand up for what you believe. Help those who are less fortunate. Care about others. Remember it's always more important to be beautiful on the inside. And always remember that you were wanted long before you were even born. I love you, I treasure you, I am so happy you are my daughter.

With all my heart,
Mommy
